How to replace/update a file (upload new versions)

What plan do I need?

  • The Update file feature is available on the Basic plan or higher.
  • (optional) The "Email template customisation" feature is available on the Growth plan or higher.

How to update the file

Simply go to the file page in Fileflare. Update the file using the "Replace" button.

Notifying previous customers

There are two ways to update files and inform your customers in bulk.

What do I need?
  • You will need to be using email software, such as Shopify Mail, Omnisend or similar.
  • You will need the Premium Fileflare plan. Feel free to use our 14-day free trial if you only need to do this short term.

1. Update the file

Simply go to the file page in Fileflare. Update the file using the "Replace" button. Do not check the option to notify customers, because we will do it in your email software instead.

2. Upgrade to Fileflare Premium plan

Ensure you are upgrade to Premium plan so that customer account downloads is enabled on your account. Feel free to use our 14-day free trial if you only need to do this short term.

3. Go to your email software

You will need to be using email software, such as Shopify Mail, Omnisend or similar. Load up the software and set up your send to inform your customers that they can access the new updated files.

Use the link below and place it anywhere in your email template using your email software. You can add it to a button, or even in text. This will link to your store and ask the user to authenticate with their email to show the download page. They must use the same email that they used for the order.

Use this link, but change the domain name to your store's domain:

https://example.com/apps/digital-downloads

Benefits of using this method:
  • Works with multiple files
  • Use filters to send to specific customers
  • Better deliverability insights such as email tracking, clicks, interactions, bounces and more
  • Email apps are built for email sending so they have all the best tools

Method 2: Using the Fileflare system

  1. Update the file in Fileflare using the Replace button
  2. Then you will be prompted if you want to inform your customers who have bought that file. Enable the box.
  3. Click "Replace" and it will send an update email to those users.

Be aware:

  • Max limit send of 10k emails
  • This only works with a single file, so if you are updating many files, use method 1
  • Cannot filter out cancelled or refunded orders
  • Cannot use filters to gather specific customers
  • Fileflare will notify everyone who has bought the Shopify products that the asset is attached to, and any orders that have the asset attached.
